Day to Itinerary

Day 1 Katmandou-Paro-Thimphu: The flight to Bhutan is one of a kind and takes you as close as you can ever get to the Himalayan mountain ranges. On your arrival, you are welcomed by our guide from “Wangchuk Tours and Treks” and you go to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. You have an evening tea in a local restaurant after which you have some free time to walk around Thimphu. We stay in Thimphu overnight.

Day 2 | Thimphu: This is full sightseeing day of the Thimphu valley and we will visit the National Library, Arts and Crafts school, Folk Heritage National Memorial Chorten & National Textile Museum, Handicrafts Emporium, Post Office and Tashichhodzong. We stay in Thimphu overnight.

Day 3 | Thimphu – Trongsa: After an early breakfast, we drive to the Dochu-la pass (3088m) to see the Himalayan summits. Depending on the weather, you may or may not see the entire mountain range.
We stop at Wangduephodrang for lunch then we continue to Tongsa across the Pele-la pass (3300m) which is the traditional boundary between the east and the west. At this point, the vegetation changes and the mountain forests are replaced by high altitude dwarf bamboo. We stop on the way to Chendebji Chorten and we arrive at Trongsa late afternoon. We go to our lodge for the night.

Day 4 | Trongsa – Bumthang After breakfast we walk to Trongsa Dzong and Ta Dzong, then we drive to Bumthang (68 km, 3h) and we cross the Yutong-la pass (3400m). We check in at our lodge when we arrive at Bumthang.

Day 5 | Bumthang After lunch we visit Kurje Lhakhang, Jambey Lhakhang (7th century), the Tamshing Monastery and Jakar Dzong.
The evening is free and you can walk around the town and/or visit the local handicraft shops.

Day 6 | Bumthang – Punakha: After breakfast, we discover the valley of Bumthang then we go to Punakha. Along the way, we stop at Tongsa for lunch in a local restaurant famous for its cuisine.
We visit Wangduephodrang Dzong then we leave for Punakha which we reach late afternoon. We spend the night in Punakha.

Day 7 | Punakha – Thimphu: In the morning we visit Punakha Dzong, a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers. The Dzong has withstood damage from fire, earthquake and flood over the centuries. We stay overnight in Thimphu.

Day 8 | Thimphu – Paro: We start early to witness the weekend market then we head to Paro. On arrival we go to the hotel for the check in then we have lunch. In the afternoon we visit the National Museum and Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong) built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. We have an evening tea at a local farmhouse. We stay overnight in Paro

Day 9 | Paro: We hike to Taktsang. After lunch in a cafeteria, we drive through the valley to Drukgyel Dzong, built in 1647 by the Shabdrung to commemorate the Bhutanese victory over the Tibetans in the war of 1644. On the way we visit Kyichu Lhakhang, built in the 7th century by the Tibetan king, Songtsen Gampo. We stay in Paro for the night.

Day 10 | Paro-Katmandu After an early breakfast in the hotel, we drive to the airport.
