Api Himal Trek

Api Himal Trek

Why not make a trip to the remote, off-the-beaten-track and untouched region of Api Himal in far western Nepal? The true wilderness of nature can be experienced along the Api Himal trekking trail. The Byash Himal range and Api Himal are still not well known. The region offers beautiful mountain landscapes, high passes, remote villages, cultural diversity, rapid rivers, pristine forests and mysterious culture. You can enjoy panoramic views of Nandadevi (7817m), Thado Dhunga Tuppa (5368m), Api Himal (7132m), Rajamba (6537m), Kapchuli and many other peaks. There is also a holy lake named Kalidhunga close to Api Himal Base Camp. The Api and Saipal area has extreme geographical conditions, with an elevation fluctuating between 1524m and 7337m.

As the Api and Saipal regions are restricted areas, you need a special permit. The native people here still speak an archaic dialect of Tibetan and Nepali languages. A nomad community known as Raute is also found here. They speak their own language and used to live in caves in the past. During summer they go up to Api Himal Base Camp, while during the freezing winters they descend to the Terai and as far as the Indian border. Just imagine being surrounded by the highest mountains in earth, watching a staggering variety of birds, small and large, as well as visiting a remote nomad community. The best season to visit is from September to November and from March to May.
