Mustang Trekking

Mustang Trekking

The Mustang trekking area has seen a steady increase in the number of visitors since it opened in 1992. Tourists require special permits to visit this region. It is a relatively easy trek, following the permitted route to Lo Manthang, which lies in the very heart of Mustang – the best-preserved walled city destination for restricted travel. The trek to Mustang is through an almost treeless barren landscape, which presents a colourful mosaic made up principally of earthen reds, yellows and brown-coloured sedimentary layers. Mustang is one of Nepal's most mysterious and least-known kingdoms, where we can explore a weird and wonderful landscape of eroded conglomerate cliffs, coloured by natural earth pigments – reds, yellows, browns and blues. It is very picturesque, with white-painted villages and Tibetan monasteries, always set against the backdrop of the distant snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. No doubt you will have an unforgettable journey to the heart of this once-forbidden kingdom.

Since Mustang is in the rain-shadow of the Himalaya, Mustang is much drier than the rest of Nepal. It is one of the few places in the world that has such a long history, yet it has remained inaccessible to outsiders for centuries. This isolation has helped the people of Mustang to maintain their lifestyle and heritage. Hidden behind the majestic Himalayan ranges of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, Mustang is filled with beautiful trekking zones. Yatra Himalaya has long been organising trekking in the area, as it is one of the main authorised trekking agencies.
